Dave is now working on a book of Burnley managers, the format being similar to the two No Nay Never anthologies. Starting with the legendary John Haworth (1914 Cup Final and 1920/21 Championship), the new anthology will cover Frank Hill in the 1950s, and then Jimmy Adamson in the 1970s. Burnley tradition and achievement begins with John Haworth. Frank Hill signed Jimmy McIlroy and his team of 1952/53 came close to winning the Division One Title. Jimmy Adamson, whose ‘team of the seventies’ was shortlived, was an enigma and his story is one of broken dreams. Read on >>
Two books already cover the lives and times of Harry Potts (Harry Potts Margaret’s Story) and Stan Ternent (No Nay Never Vol 2). The new anthology takes up the BFC story with the careers of Steve Cotterill and Owen Coyle. The former came in at a difficult time, but kept Burnley in the Championship, signing several players who formed the nucleus of the 2009 promotion team under Owen Coyle. How will Owen Coyle be remembered at Burnley? As the man who achieved an improbable promotion to the Premiership, or as the man who deserted the club in mid season, shattering morale and taking most of the backroom staff with him? Written objectively the reader can make up his own mind. Publication will probably be late 2011 with a section on manager Brian Laws if the 2010/11 season merits it.
